Rajeewa Jayaweera freelance writer critical of Rajapakse regime found dead in Colombo

Jayaweera was a freelance writer for the Colombo Telegraph and former senior executive Sri Lankan Airlines

The man found dead at Independence Square this morning has been identified as Rajeewa Jayaweera, a former Senior Manager at SriLanka Airlines. He is also a well-known freelance writer attached to the Colombo Telegraph Website, where he has written articles on a wide range of topics including corruption at Sri Lankan Airlines.

Jayaweera had worked at SriLankan and Mihin Lanka companies and had navigated the social conversation into the the notorious Airbus scam by Mihin Lanka by exclusively disclosing information. He had written a number of articles on the scam for the Colombo Telegraph website, with many other contributions as a writer on sensitive information involving fraud and corruption.

He also testified in the presence of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate and inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption, and Abuse of Power, State Resources, and Privileges (PRECIFAC).

Withstanding the controversial history borne by Jayaweera, speculations are on the rise that his death, which is referred to as suicide, could be a murder.

These speculations, however unconfirmed, suggest that the deceased had been abducted, murdered and brought back to the Independence Square. 

Rajeewa Jayaweera was an active Twitter user and his Twitter account has been disabled now. It’s not clear when his account was disabled.

The official twitter account of Jayaweera has been reported deactived.
